sweatshirt

i have come to this conclusion:

jacob sartorious knows very little, at least as relates to love.

(i conclude this from recent events that reminded me of his smashing hit, "sweatshirt" that skyrocketed him to stardom -- a discussion for another day)

while items can contain great significance, there are ultimately things that are far more valuable and sacred (i say this to myself more than anyone else!). no longer having something i had longed for and excitedly acquired leaves an emptiness within me, but i have realized the emptiness would ultimately not be filled by the return of the item. in fact, receiving it would likely tear open wounds that are meant to heal.

so while sweatshirts are great, especially when they remind you of family far away, our hearts and identities are infinitely more precious. we love in the name of love, as if it is some indefinite force that we may wield with the pretense that it is not for our own personal gain. not to say that our love has to be selfish, i just know that i have "loved" in that way and i feel that it is possibly the natural human bent in regards to love.

so as i have been told on numerous occasions, and as you can find on the streets in cities like new york, protect yo' heart.

it is to precious to be given away carelessly, and for what gain?

no pain is wasted and the Lord is our healer, so this by no means indicates that we need to live in regret and guilt for our past attempts at love. but by HIS mercy and grace and through HIS love, we can seek to be led by HIM in loving as we were created, designed to love.
